Nobody bought this place finished. One family cut it out of the mountain, a season at a time, and they still run it.

They cut it out of the trees that were already here

Tom and BJ Hoover and their two sons, Dusty and Josh, felled the timber standing on the property and peeled every log by hand. What could be milled on site was milled on site — the siding, the trim, the doors, and the bar that still stands in the saloon.

It took about eight years to get the lodge and the saloon liveable, working only in the summers, because at this elevation there are no other summers to work in.

The hot tub was cut into the granite

The overgrown ground was cleared into meadow. The lake was opened up. The hot tub was built into the rock overlooking the water — not dropped beside it, built into it.

The property has been changed every year since, always in the same direction: take away what obscures the granite and the water, add only what a wedding actually needs.

Still run by the family that built it

There is no management company, no ownership group, and no front desk. Someone from The Hideout is on the property at all times during your stay — this is off-grid, on solar and generator, and it needs looking after.

That is also why the rules are so short. The people who wrote them are the people who cut the logs.
